summerfest playlist

What do CSUF IT employees
listen to during the summer?

A handful of CSUF IT employees helped us create a summer playlist for this year’s virtual Summerfest. The genres of these tracks range from rock to reggaeton. We even had a few people unintentionally choose the same song!

Scroll down to read who selected what song and why. You can listen to the songs through the YouTube links provided or visit the Spotify playlist by clicking the button below.

Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince

Chosen by Erica Bowers and Chandra Jones

Erica Bowers: Brings me back to my early years- makes me think of summer.
Chandra Jones: This song always got me in the spirit of summer. It came out my last year in high school and it brings back memories.

Cruel Summer by Bananarama

Chosen by Roman Hernandez and Trung Hua

Roman Hernandez: It’s a cruel summer.
Trung Hua: The COVID-19 era as we all distanced from one another. It reminded me the 80s and 90s summertime was more enjoyable as I come to think of it. 🙂

Boys of Summer by The Ataris

Chosen by Scott Cooper

Good cover of a classic song.

All Day Music by War

Chosen by Vita McCoy

It’s the essence of a relaxing summer day…all laid back. 🙂

Danza Kuduro by Don Omar

Chosen by Pauline Knox

Fond memories of happy times in my house with my boys playing The Fast and The Furious video game. This song always puts me in a great mood. Although I don’t understand all the words, I love the beat and associates it with the games and movies. I just love it! 😀

Feels Like Summer by Vince Staples

Chosen by Matt Sylvester

This summer jam was part of a concept album from Vince and Big Boy, a famous L.A. radio host. It reminds me of driving down PCH carefree hanging with my buds.

Party Hard by Andrew W.K.

Chosen by John Clayton King

This song makes me happy and sort of fits the theme.

School's Out by Alice Cooper

Chosen by Joe Luzzi

Alice Cooper is a legend! I remember this in elementary school as we hit summer. It has been a classic ever since :-).

Don't Stop Me Now by Queen

Chosen by Sepideh Nia

Sunny Afternoon by The Kinks

Chosen by Ryder Smith

The Kinks are great band rated as high as the Beatles. This song is both iconic and relevant now, 54 years later.

Innerbloom by RÜFÜS DU SOL

Chosen by Mike Panah

It was the last concert that I attended before COVID.

Doin’ Time (Summertime) by Sublime

Chosen by Vince Hernandez

It is a mellow and totally awesome summertime song!
