I walked into the Echoplex not knowing what to expect as the last time I was in the lower street-level venue, tucked underneath The Echo, was four years ago when I randomly stumbled in for a small show. This time I didn’t randomly stumble into a strange spot in LA. This time I was here for Take Me Out, a night dedicated to 2000’s Disco Punk and Indie Electro.
I was immediately hit with nostalgia when I made my way onto the dance floor and memories of my high school music collection filled the booming speakers. Modern classics such as Lisztomnania, Heads Will Roll, Float On and Helena Beat (to name a few) had everyone dancing in what seemed like a party fueled by the memories of adolescent angst. Everyone was singing along to the lyrics, complimenting the DJs’ mixes by keeping their hips swinging in the underground spot in the heart of Echo Park.
If you want to experience a night of carefree dancing while achieving that emotional, nostalgic musical fulfillment Take Me Out is the event for you.
